Overview

Timbers Steakhouse & Seafood, located at 1212 W Maumee St in Angola, Indiana, offers a robust dining experience rooted in classic steakhouse tradition with a seafood twist. This inviting venue crafts an atmosphere that is both comfortable and welcoming, catering to locals and travelers alike who appreciate a well-executed meal within a relaxed setting.

The restaurant’s menu shines with its focus on high-quality cuts of meat, notably the ribeye steak and prime rib, which have garnered praise for their flavor and generous portions. Seafood enthusiasts will find delights like lobster tail and pecan crusted tilapia, demonstrating Timbers’ commitment to satisfying varied palates. The salad bar and fresh house salad complement the mains and offer a refreshing balance to the hearty entrees.

Appetizers at Timbers showcase creativity and bold flavors. The kraut balls—a blend of ground beef, sausage, and sauerkraut—stand out as an international twist. The Timbers sampler offers a crowd-pleasing variety with mozzarella sticks, garlic mushrooms, and wings, perfect for sharing. For something with an Asian flair, the sashimi tuna arrives seasoned and seared, paired with pickled ginger and wasabi, highlighting the kitchen’s attention to detail and texture.

Customer experiences speak to consistent strengths and minor imperfections. Steve Hoyt remarks on the house-smoked ribs, noting the flavor’s tangy complexity yet a slight dryness, a reminder that the kitchen balances smoky tradition with evolving taste preferences. Other guests have lauded the perfectly cooked steaks, the tender liver, and inventive sides like bourbon-glazed Brussels sprouts—a surprising highlight even for those ambivalent about the vegetable.

Service at Timbers tends to be friendly and attentive, even during busy periods. Some have observed brief waits for to-go orders, yet this is offset by the overall quality of care and the spotless environment. The bar program adds value to the experience with well-crafted cocktails, such as a notably good Bloody Mary.

Timbers Steakhouse & Seafood appeals primarily to those seeking a reliable steakhouse in a small-town setting where classic American fare meets thoughtful seafood offerings. Its approachable yet refined menu, combined with a cozy atmosphere and solid service, makes it an ideal stop for both casual diners and visitors passing through Angola.

Latest visit was a vast improvement upon the previous visit. Some of the decor was updated. I had the 1/2 slab House-smoked Ribs with steak fries and chicken enchilada soup. The food was good, although the ribs were a touch over cooked and a bit dry the flavor was on point. The BBQ sauce is on the tangy side (think Open Pit) while I prefer a sweeter, smokier flavor profile such as Sweet Baby Ray's. The restroom was spotless and the service on point except for a small delay waiting for to-go boxes and checks. Which was understandable considering they were pretty busy.

I would highly recommend Timbers Steakhouse if you are looking for a good cut of meat. The food was better than I expected. The ribeye was very flavorful, and a good size. The prime rib was one of the best I have had. The house salad was also wonderful.

We were staying overnight while traveling and the person at the hotel recommend Timbers. The Bloody Mary was very good. I had the prime rib sandwich with mushrooms and it was excellent. I got a baked potato for my side at no extra cost, again very tasty with butter and sour cream. My girlfriend got the chicken bacon wrap which was great, but the big hit was the bourbon glazed Brussels sprouts. They were awesome, and I don’t even like Brussels sprouts! The staff was friendly and helpful and the atmosphere was comfortable. Highly recommended!

Bartender made very good drinks, the steak was cooked to order and the liver was quite tender.

Decent food. On the day we visited they were closing at 2pm instead of 10pm. We arrived just before 1, and they said we'd have a 25 minute wait... but then seated us about 5 minutes later. Steak was decent, Mahi Mahi was a bit overdone, but I'd prefer that to underdone. The smokehouse burgers are HUGE. They have their own timber seasoning, and half our party liked it half didn't care much for it, but it was a unique thing to try. Overall, not bad. Good place to stop into if you're in the area.
